The thirteenth NFA Championship Game was held at St Louis Stadium, St Louis, MO. This would be the second time in 3 years that the championship game would be hosted by the NFA West Champion St Louis Aviators. The Aviators would finish the 1951 NFA Season 11-1. The Pittsburgh Ironmen would finish the season 9-3 which earned them their second NFA East Championship and second championship game appearance in franchise history. This would be the first championship game that would feature the number one ranked defense (Pittsburgh) against the number one ranked offense (St Louis). This would also be the first time in NFA Championship history that a former head coach of a team would face off against his former team in the championship game. Mitch Andrews was head coach of the St Louis Aviators from 1939 to 1944. Andrews had led the Aviators to the 1940 NFA Championship. After being fired following the 1944 NFA Season, the Ironmen hired Andrews prior to the 1945 NFA Season. This would be the third NFA Championship Mitch Andrews would coach and second with the Ironmen.
