The nineteenth NFA Championship Game would be hosted by the 12-2 St Louis Aviators. The Aviators won their 5th NFA West Division title. For the first time in their franchise history, the Philadelphia Colonials would play in the NFA Championship Game after going 11-3 and winning the NFA East Division title. After beating the Cleveland Generals in the Playoff Bowl, the Colonials would travel to St Louis to take on the best team in the league.
GAME SUMMARY
This game wouldn't have much drama and it would be pretty evident early that the Aviators were a much better team. St Louis would receive the ball first and would drive down the field easily. The NFA MVP would rush 5 yards up the middle and score a touchdown for the first score of the game. On Philadelphia's first possession of the game, Michael McCaffrey would throw an interception for the games first turnover. The Aviators would capitalize on the turnover and score again. This time it would be a 23 yard pass from Ernie Case to Jimmy Harrison. Philadelphia's head coach Pat Fuller would rally his team together and try to calm their nerves. The Colonials had found themselves down 14 points early in the game. On their third possession of the game late in the opening quarter, McCaffrey would throw a 10 yard touchdown to cut the score in half. The Colonials defense would stop the Aviators to end the first quarter and again on their first possession of the second quarter. The Philadelphia offense would make another costly mistake though. From their own 34 yard line, Kyle Rose would fumble the ball after being hit by a St Louis defender. The Aviators would recover the ball and put themselves in scoring position easily. The Colonials defense would be able to hold St Louis to a field goal though which helped keep some pride on the Philadelphia sideline. It wouldn't last for long though. McCaffrey would fumble the ball on a third and three from the St Louis 46 yard line. Philadelphia would recover the ball, but would have to punt. The following Aviators drive would result in another St Louis score. Case would throw his second touchdown pass of the game. At halftime, St Louis led 24-7. Philadelphia's head coach Pat Fuller at halftime would tell his men that they still had an entire half of football. Even though they were down 24-7, the Colonials still had a good chance. It would only get worse though for Philadelphia. They would turn the ball over again with another fumble on their first drive of the second half. Paul Walker would score his second touchdown of the game easily and put the Aviators up 31-7. It now seemed that the game was way out of reach for Philadelphia. The Colonials would fail to score any points the rest of the game. They would never cross mid field making it to the 50 yard line but then being stopped on a fourth and two late in the 3rd quarter. The Aviators would continue to put up points on the board with the leagues best offense with a rushing touchdown by Ernie Case and another score by Paul Walker. To add insult to injury, McCaffrey would throw a second interception of the game which the Aviators defense would return for a touchdown. This would put the Aviators on top 51-7 which would be the final score. St Louis would win their 3rd NFA Championship in franchise history. This would also be Ernie Case and Paul Walker's 3rd championship.
